Holocaust

Between 11 million and 17 million people from many different groups, since Jews to ethnic Poles, Romani, Soviet civilians, Soviet prisoners of war, people with disabilities, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, and other political and religious opponents were Holocaust victims. Approximately six million European Jews died during World War II, wich reprensents almost 60% of the Jewish population at that time.

Yesterday was the 65th aniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp (this date it's the International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD) since 2005, when the United Nations General Assembly designated it to), so we think there is no better time to remember what happened and make a tribute to those victims because they don't deserve be forgotten. This was one really shamefull time of our history that we pray that never wappens again, not close to it. It's the negative exemple from our society of the horrors of a dictatorship.

Jews people put stones in their graves because they last from 300 years, not 3 days like flowers; so there is our little white stone in their graves: a acclamation to them don't EVER be forgotten.

This was all really sad but nobody has the right to hide it.

Act now!

Hi everyone! Watch those simply amazing commercials from WWF (http://www.panda.org/):

(I'm addicted to publicity so I was fascinated about these commercials, not only because they are made to awareness people about the changes of climate and how this is going to affect us and - in this case - how much time we have to act - that is, in fact, almost none -, but also because, only as commercials, they are extremely well done and it's so amazing see one good and original publicity, just like these... There are much more commercials about other different things, very original as well, all in order to defend our planet. Thank you WWF to create it, to try open people's eyes.)

Camera

A camera is a device that records images, either as a still photograph or as moving images known as videos or movies. We choose this invention because thanks to it, we have the possibility of record a moment and make it last forever.

HISTORY:

The first permanent photograph was made in 1826 by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce using a sliding wooden box camera made by Charles and Vincent Chevalier in Paris. However, while this was the birth of photography, the camera itself can be traced back much further, in 1604 by the Johannes Kepler. Before the invention of photography, there was no way to preserve the images produced by these cameras apart from manually tracing them.
To take a picture, it took a long time of posing, but the development of the collodion wet plate process by Frederick Scott Archer in 1850 reduced it dramatically, but required photographers to prepare and develop their glass plates on the spot, usually in a mobile darkroom. Wet plate cameras were little different from previous designs, though there were some models, where the sensitizing and developing of the plates could be carried out inside the camera itself rather than in a separate darkroom. Other cameras were fitted with multiple lenses for making cartes de visite. It was during the wet plate era that the use of bellows for focusing became widespread.
The first colour photograph was made, in 1861, by Scottish physicist James Clerk Maxwell, with the help of English inventor and photographer Thomas Sutton.
The electronic video camera tube was invented in the 1920s, starting a line of development that eventually resulted in digital cameras, which largely supplanted film cameras after the turn of the 21st century.

CURIOSITIES:

- The forerunner to the camera was the camera obscura.

- The first camera that was small and portable enough for practical use was built by Johann Zahn in 1685, almost 150 years before chemical technology caught up to the point where photography was practical.

- The first permanent photograph was made in 1826.

- One snap-shot with the first camera in history would take eight hours of posing, no shaking.

- The first colour photograph was made in 1861.

- Photography had influenced modern art.

- George Eastman, the inventor of Kodak cameras, hated to be photographed.

Different

"It's the difference that makes the world move on."

Don't worry, being weird it's amazing. Just "anormal" things can change the world, and we really need to change it!
Be original, save the planet ;)

Science-fiction

Personnnaly I don't like science-fiction movies like Star Wars and that, because the special effects they have don't bring us the idea of reality, that it can really exist.
Of all the science-fiction movies that I saw i just liked Avatar. It can put us in it using the special effects. I also liked Harry Potter because it shows us the magic they practice using special effects!

By: Ci*

In my opinion science-fiction movies aren't very interesting. Well I like the effects but the stories in general are stupid. Movies like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or Transformers have a funny story, and I only see science-fiction movies of this kind. That type of movies brings us a new World, new creatures ... A example of a awful movie it's Matrix. Well, may be because it's too old but In my opinion, the special effects are so bad. Who knows if it was done again recently? Maybe I can change my opinion.

I don't like science-fiction movies. What I like more in a film is the story itself and directors of science-fiction movies are sometimes too worried about special effects and they ruin the story that is, in fact, what it matters. I souldn't be talking about that, because I don't actually LOVE seing movies, I think it's sometimes a waste of time, and the movies that I like to see are those who show the reality cruelly, that show reality as it is, to show the world, to those persons who are living in the "world of the moon", that think that there are not problems in our world. It's good to have something that alert us of what's going on around, because that is a world outside that we sometimes can't even imagine, and think about other realities instead on focus on our it's , in my opinion, very stupid. I admire films based on true stories, documentaries, ... something that can open people's eyes.

Avatar

Science-fiction it's all about imagination, it's the creation of our own reality.
The world, THE reality, is really far from being perfect, so it's always good to have other "realities" to have a break of our own. It shall be wonderful to create these films... It starts with one idea about one reality and... voilá... we make it real... we make the reality we wish real... Well... It's not "just like that"... Avatar (for instance) took 15 years to be complete (yes, that's a lot) and it cost 237 milion dollars (now that it IS really a lot)!! But imagine how happy it's now the director with that. It's own reality, seen and lived by thousands of people (well... he may be happy about the money he gained, to - 1,33 billion dollars) but, apart from that, its amazing how technology helped us in that. It made this even more real! Isn't that amazing? 3-D films give cinema a whole new dimension, and that it's SO awesome!
These kind of movies are very exiting because they show us a different dimension, with new creatures and, in particular, this movie it's one of the pioneers in this kind special-effects.

Tutto per voi :(

Here is one amazing italian poem by Francesco Petrarca. It clearly shows how messy and sad love can be:

Per voi

Pace non trovo e non ho da far guerra
e temo, e spero; e ardo e sono un ghiaccio;
e volo sopra'l cielo, e giaccio in terra;
e nulla stringo, e tutto il mondo abbraccio.

Tal m'ha in pregion, che non m'apre né sera,
né per suo mi ritèn né scioglie il laccio;
e non m'ancide Amore, e non mi sferra,
né mi vuol vivo, né mi trae d'impaccio.

Veggio senz'occhi, e non ho lingua, e grido;
e bramo di perir, e chieggio aita;
e ho in odio me stesso, e amo altrui.

Pascomi di dolor, piangendo rido;
egualmente mi spiace morte e vita:
in questo stato son, amore, per voi.

For you

I can't find peace and the war don't want me
I'm afraid, waiting and burning, being frozen,
And I can fly across the sky being ground,
And holding nothing, I hug the hole world.

He jail me, don't let me go, don't give this love one end,
Not even for him he breake the loop
Don't kill this love or set me free,
Don't want me alive or death.

I see without eyes, without tong I scream
And I wish my dead, I wish for help
And full of odium I love someone.

Fed by the pain, laughing I cry
Death or life it's now the same
And all of this, my love, for you.

(I made myself the traslation so probably it's full os mistakes.
All the translations to portuguese I read were all a bit confuses and that was my interpretation.
If you disagree with something please comment. All help it's welcoming : D )

Snow

Hi everyone! It's snowing today! : DD

Let It Snow : Lyrics
Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of Pauseping,
And I've bought some corn for popping,
The lights are turned way down low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight,
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bying,
But as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

One of the greatest songs from The Beatles!!

Lyrics:
Here come old flattop he come grooving up slowly
He got joo-joo eyeball he one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee
Got to be a joker he just do what he please

He wear no shoeshine he got toe-jam football
He got monkey finger he shoot coca-cola
He say "I know you, you know me"
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free
Come together right now over me

He bag production he got walrus gumboot
He got Ono sideboard he one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his arms so you can feel his disease
Come together right now over me

He roller-coaster he got early warning
He got muddy water he one mojo filter
He say "One and one and one is three"
Got to be good-looking 'cause he's so hard to see
Come together right now over me

Why are vampires so fascinating?

We think that, generally speaking, histories with vampires and mythical creatures are boring and pathethic. Although, we loved to read/watch the Twilight saga from Stephenie Meyer. Why? Well we think that, in Twilight stories, vampires and werewolves are just one methafore to embellish the whole history. This saga retracts no more than a love and friendship story, that actually lead us to make part of it.
We can't disagree more with this whole publicity around vampires and werewolves (creation of imitations of books and series and movies), that only (try) to copy Twilight saga thanks to its success.
Two of us read all of the books and we think they're addicting but we don't want fake copies. And that's our message to those writers: please be original, try to make your own sucess with something actually new.

Lyrics

"We need some hope
We need it now
My real faith can't help me out
I learned to pray, but it's too late now"

Bullet

"Baby I want you like the roses
Want the rain
You know I need you
Like a poet needs the pain
I would give anything
My blood my love my life
If you were in these arms tonight"

In These Arms

"We weren’t born to follow
Come on and get up off your knees
When life is a bitter pill to swallow
You gotta hold onto what you believe
Believe that the sun will shine tomorrow
And that your saints and sinners bleed
We weren’t born to follow
You gotta stand up for what you believe"

We Weren't Born to Follow

This are my favourite part of some Bon Jovi's songs!
